WiZ Connected is a French-Asian lighting software solution company and later joined Signify in 2019. The product ecosystem comprises IoT software solutions on mobile and web, cloud services and firmware products. The system is deployed in 40 countries across the globe. Customers can have a comprehensive lighting experience with many thoughtful features in the mobile application. For business clients, WiZ pro turns residential and commercial application into a welcoming space through smart lighting. In 2019, WiZ connected was successfully acquired by Signify 6 months after WiZ pro launch.
WiZ connected needs a new direction to expand the business. The existing solution focuses smart lighting experience at home. However, more new products appeared and the firmware market positioning of WiZ light wasn't as competitive as before. PropTech is a direction to expand the business with more business clients.
The existing pairing process is confusing to the users. Users need to switch ON and OFF the light with certain rhythm to enter pairing mode. However, user often fail to trigger the pairing mode and end up looking for customer support. That always is the biggest pain point for users. Besides, with the new integration, the new bench of firmware production allows multiple pairing methods while the old stock only support one. Therefore, the app will need an inclusive pairing flow to support multiple pairing methods.
There are more firmware types and integrations for the system to adopt. There will be more than one touch point for users to send order to the system. Besides the new system integrations with different smart home controllers and the WiZ app, sensors, switches and remote need to be displayed in both WiZ app and WiZ pro.
One pairing session for all product generations
Users usually fail to put the light into pairing mode with the wrong switching rhythm. With the new implementation, there are 3 pairing methods across product generations to ease user pairing confusion.
The WiZpro enables users to set up workspace for multiple floors and visualizes all the devices in the most intuitive way. The solution focuses on all-rounded lighting management including controlling, maintaining device lifecycle, escape path ,and scheduling. It helps property managers to enhance the service quality. The management product syncs with the mobile app under a clear permission set up. The system can generate verification codes and users can join the workspace with the code as well as controlling the lights.
The biggest achievement from my days in WiZ connected (Former name: Taolight) is the acquisition of Signify (Philips). The major trigger is the launch of WiZ Pro. It was a challenge for me to design a management system from the idea phases as there were a lot of possible features that can be put into the product and we didn't have the resources to conduct research. Therefore, it could be tricky when it comes to feature prioritization. For the WiZ app, I believe the product pairing process is the biggest challenge to the user flow as it has to be adaptable for different generations and other product types. I have learned a lot from our firmware engineering team about the limitation of each firmware. It was a valuable experience.
